The local production of tile assumes some importance only from the second half of the 19th century, when it was founded the first ceramic factories in the islands of S. Miguel and Terceira.
These local productions tiles lined the façades of urban buildings and walls of chapels in storied compositions, in cobalt blue tones, or in symmetrical compositions known as “de tapete” with geometric and vegetal designs on plain stamp or relief tiles through the molding technique.
Under the current production it must be taken into account the interesting independent work of our artisans engaged in the production of artistic tile, of classic or contemporary taste, integrated in decorative panels, combined with the production of other ornamental pieces or domestic use, or as individual pieces.
