The President of the Regional Government of the Azores, José Manuel Bolieiro, visited the Expo Açores Artesanato, in Ponta Delgada, on Friday, highlighting the “prestige and dedication” of regional artisans.
“We must recognize the Government’s good political strategy of promoting demand and adherence to this growth. Upon entering Portas do Mar, I remembered that the world enters here – but with our crafts, the Azores express themselves in the world”, maintained the government official.
The 3rd edition of Expo Açores Artesanato runs until Tuesday at Pavilhão do Mar, in Portas do Mar, in Ponta Delgada.
“We are taking advantage of the legacy and valuing and enhancing it”, continued José Manuel Bolieiro, who was accompanied by the Regional Secretary for Youth, Professional Qualification and Employment, Maria João Carreiro.
The event features the participation of 84 Artisanal Production Units from eight of the nine islands of the archipelago – São Miguel, Pico, Faial, Terceira, Graciosa, Flores, Corvo and São Jorge, in a showcase of artisanal products that includes products certified under the collective brand “Artesanato dos Açores” and also productions by two artisans from the island of Madeira.
The event has free entrance.
In addition to the promotion and commercialization of artisanal products on display, this Christmas market dedicated to Azorean Handicrafts also includes daily workshops on techniques for making “Lapinha” Nativity Scenes, Christmas ornaments with fabrics, macrame, among others, as well as animation in an itinerant format throughout the space.
