Ana Costa is the heir of the famous “Lusa” pastry shop, which for decades remained the meeting place of the bourgeoisie, of the first half of the 20th century, in a cosmopolitan city such as Angra.
In this pastry shop, all the regional sweets are confectioned masterfully, according to the ingredients and methods of manufacture described in the books of recipes inherited from her ancestors. From the exquisite sweets produced there, the highlight goes to the “Dona Amélia” cakes, confectioned in the island of Terceira, for over 100 years.
At the beginning of the 20thcentury, the Kings of Portugal, D. Carlos and Dona Amélia came to the island and “The people of Terceira offered them the best cakes of all the roundness of its horizon” and a local cake, which was named in honor of the Queen “Dona Amélia”.
