This residence took place in 2017, in the island of Terceira, and involved the participation of 2 handicraft production units of the inlay and wooden arts, namely Susana Almeida and Francisco Pereira, product designer Susana António and the collaboration of the Regional Directorate for the Environment and Regional Directorate of Forests Resources.
The Creative Residences of the Regional Center for Handicrafts intend to keep alive the traditional arts and crafts, promoting the techniques and knowledge of incalculable cultural value through a new view.
At a time when there is so much talk about endogenous resources, it made perfect sense for this residence to be based on the tradition of the art of wood cutouts and inlays, already so little spread through the archipelago and that it’s urgent to recover.
Through the creation of small pieces and using wood such as the cryptomeria, acacia or beech, it is revealed the economic potential of objects produced with materials and techniques typical of the region with a renewed aesthetic appeal.
