The uniqueness and the enormous wealth of the Azores Embroidery are the reason for its systematic dissemination and consequent promotion, since it is a product with certificate of origin and quality since 1998. With texts of Alexandra Andrade and graphic designs from José Carlos Silva, this book shows us some examples of undoubted patrimonial value produced in the region and assumes the task of promoting the history and techniques of the three types of certified embroideries: Straw Embroidery from the island of Faial, Matiz Embroidery from the Island of São Miguel and the White Embroidery from the island of Terceira.
The book “Bordados dos Açores” (Embroideries of the Azores), was published for the first time in 2001 in conjunction with the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Azores and the later reissues of sole responsibility of the Government of the Azores, through the Regional Centre for Handicrafts, which is evidence of the growing appreciation of both the economic point of view and from the cultural point of view, that the embroidery of the Azores won near the public, at a regional and national level, as well the importance it has been given as a quality bibliographic reference for research in this area.
