Ponta Delgada, August 8, 2019
The Vice Presidency of the Government, through the Regional Center for Handicrafts (CRAA), promotes the participation of Azorean companies in the 12th Feria de Artesanía del Faro de Maspalomas, which will be held in Gran Canaria from August 9 to 18.
In this event will be on display the work of 65 artisans, including three from the Azores, namely from the islands of São Miguel, Terceira and Pico, with works in the areas of Vegetable Fibers, Inlaid Wood and Lace.
This regional initiative, developed in partnership with FEDAC – Fundación para la Etnografia y Desarrollo de la Artesanía Canaria, a partner entity of the Craft & Art project, approved under the INTERREG-MAC VA 2014-2020 program, aims to contribute to the development of innovation projects based on the most iconic traditional arts and crafts of the nine islands.
It is a project that aims to launch products in the market where the handicraft component is significant and, through the integration of products in the brand “Artesanato dos Açores”, create sustainability for the artisans work and reach new markets beyond the traditional ones.
The Government of the Azores intends to value and promote regional products, encourage product certification, brand images, protected geographical indication, traditional specialty guaranteed, guarantee labels and seals, as indispensable action to conquer and widen the export markets, supporting handicraft enterprises in the introduction of quality management systems and their certification.
