Regional Government implements project “A avó veio trabalhar nos Açores”

The Vice-Presidency of the Government, through the Regional Center for Handicrafts (CRAA) and in collaboration with the Municipal Council of Lagoa, will implement the project “A avó veio trabalhar nos Açores”.
This initiative will be developed through a partnership with the project “A avó veio trabalhar nos Açores”, created four years ago in Lisbon, in the handicraft development area with senior public.
It is a learning, sharing and empowerment project that, through traditional crafts and responsible design, increases the capacity for intervention of seniors in society.
In this initiative in São Miguel, under the guidance of the co-founder Susana António, it is intend to explore intergenerational dynamics, design and senior affirmation through handicrafts.
The objective is to create a working group with artisans and seniors from the day centers of the county of Lagoa, who will work in the Azores Craftlab Cowork, which will function as a creative laboratory for products, workshops, exhibitions, commercialization of the pieces produced and exchanges.
The Azores Craftlab, created by the Vice-Presidency of the Government, through the Regional Center for Handicrafts, is the Azores’s first incubator to support projects and business ideas in the area of handicrafts, but it is much more than a business incubator, being a space and a community thought to develop the creativity and to grow the projects through a set of services and unique conditions.
The project “A avó veio trabalhar nos Açores” includes a series of participatory and intergenerational activities, which promote greater understanding and respect between the young and the old, contributing to the construction of more cohesive and sustainable communities.
With the implementation of this project, CRAA intends to reinforce the actions of traditional know-how in order to contribute to the continuity and innovation of the sector through the registration and training of new artisans.
“A avó veio trabalhar nos Açores” will contribute not only to valorize and promote local identity, to safeguard and value traditional knowledge and crafts, but also to promote the production and marketing of innovative pieces using traditional techniques.
