Alzira and Conceição Neves founded in 1986, the Regional Crafts School of Santo Amaro. They are the directors and teachers of the school whose main function is to teach, divulge and revive the traditional production in different areas of handicraft.
The school-workshop is a rustic house from the last century, also has a store/shop that keeps the door open for those who want to visit and learn.
In the store/shop you can find unique handmade products such as “Bonecas Labregas do Mato” (dolls made with fabric leftovers and stuffed with the shavings from cryptomerias or cedar), hats made of dragon tree leafs and bijouterie made of straw, authorship of these twin artisans.
In 2014, they were distinguished with the award CoMtradição-Award of the Handicrafts of the Azores, established by the Regional Centre for Handicrafts.
Fish scale products are certified by the Brand “Artesanato dos Açores” (Handicraft of the Azores).
