The Agricultural Cooperative of Faial opened in August 2008 and has provided excellent conditions for the beekeeping sector on this island. Designated as an Honey Plant it has the functions of extraction, packaging and labeling of honey from its beekeeper associates.
The “Cresta”, the harvesting of the honey, is held in two seasons, May, June and/or September and October, there may be changes due to the weather.
One of the highlights of this cooperative is the incensed honey, which is one of the many wonders of the Azores. Incense honey has a delicate and fragrant smell very sweet and typical flavor, based on essential oils of the incense flower.
