Centro Social e Cultural da Atalhada (Social and Cultural Center of Atalhada) was born in 1997 and took over the project “Combating Poverty” based on the creation of a network of workshops and the creation of a multi-service cooperative (in the areas of pastry, handicrafts and carpentry). The carpentry receives young people with learning problems, the bakery produces quality products and the weaving and embroidery recovers local traditions and gives unemployed women an entry point to the work space. The handicrafts generates revenue, but also employs about 12 women being the most important, the development of human resources and the acquisition of new knowledge.
