Faience
The ceramic industry of Lagoa, which established itself throughout the 19th century and from which connections with the ceramic industry in the North of Portugal cannot be excluded, began the production of faience in the Azores with the mass production of pieces painted with flowers and other vegetal motifs, enamelled in white and presented in the form of tea and coffee sets, tureens, plates and various decorative objects.
It also contributed significantly to the production of the Azorean identity through the representation of local customs in molded sculpture, as is the case of the “Casal Micaelense”, composed of the farmer in a hood and the woman in a c"apote-e-capelo", emblematic figures of the people of São Miguel.
