Biography:

Professional potter since the age of 19, trained by the master Álvaro Freitas, Ricardo Simas is the last representative of the traditional pottery of the island of Terceira to give continuity to the workshop of S. Bento. His workshop is a force that does not let Terceira’s pottery tradition die. He produces not only traditional pieces such as chisels, jars, roasters, dough and alcatra bowls with clay from the island of Santa Maria as well as others more contemporary using black white clays. Ricardo Simas was invited to execute the dish used in the Festival 10 Fest Açores - 10 Days, 10 Chefs, in the 2014 (Designer Jorge Soares) and 2015 (Designer Sara Schanderl ) editions.
