Massa Sovada

Massa Sovada is a type of sweet bread made throughout the islands of the Azores. However, its meaning goes far beyond this explanation, given the great diversity of recipes that exist for its preparation and the relevance given to it at the time of the festivity.

The basic ingredients are flour, sugar, butter, milk or water and eggs. It can be round and closed, like a loaf of bread, or in the shape of a ring.

At the festivities, the kneaded dough is a promise made to the saint of the offerer's devotion; it is an offer distributed to participants; It is also a family aggregator sweet. It goes in processions in bags decorated with flowers and embroidered towels, but it can also be deposited in places of worship, with zoomorphic or anthropomorphic shapes.
