Biography:

Catarina Alves says that when she works a stone she can feel its soul. Azorean, graduated in Fine-Arts and Sculpture, her interest in creating pieces using lava stones came naturally. The brand Pedras de Lava (Lava Stones) appeared in 2009, allying stone sculpture to costume jewellery. The creations of the artisan Catarina Alves are inspired by the nature and handicrafts of the Azores, having also environmental concerns. Reusing and revaluing different waste materials and elements from nature, Catarina creates unique, original and creative pieces.
