Violas da Terra were the first artisanal product from the Azores to be certified as a Geographical Indication (GI), the Regional Secretariat for Youth, Housing, and Employment, through the Azores Crafts and Design Center, is now preparing the process for the second artisanal product – Registos of Senhor Santo Cristo dos Milagres.
On September 22, at 10:30 am, an information session on the GI Certification was held at the P. Delgada Public Library and Archives for artisans who make Registos of Senhor Santo Cristo dos Milagres, an emblematic piece of craftsmanship from São Miguel. This session, promoted by CADA and the certifying entity, A.Certifica, was attended by 12 artisans registered with the Azores Crafts and Design Center and certified by the “Artesanato dos Açores” Collective Brand seal, demonstrating a great desire to take this further step of excellence in favor of the exaltation of artisanal products and intellectual property in the Azores, with what this means in terms of recognition and appreciation of the artisanal heritage of the Azores in the national and European space.
