The Festivities in honor of Senhor Santo Cristo dos Milagres 2026 are the biggest religious celebration in Ponta Delgada and in the Azores. This year they will take place from May 8th to 14th, with the highlight being the open-air mass and the Procession on Sunday, May 10th.

This week will also be the official start of the Handicraft Fairs throughout the Autonomous Region of the Azores. In other words, in parallel with the celebration of the major festivities of the city of Ponta Delgada, the Expo Açores Artesanato Santo Cristo will take place at Portas do Mar, on Alameda do Mar.

You can visit the fair according to the schedule below:

• May 8th – opening at 6 PM and closing at midnight

• May 9th, 10th, 11th and 14th - from 4 PM to midnight

• May 12th and 13th - from 6 PM to 11:30 PM

This year's edition features 56 artisans/UPAs from a wide variety of areas, including: vegetal fibers; embroidery, lace, textiles, whalebone, fish scales, nativity scenes, jewellery, paper, figurative ceramics, wood, glass, ceramic figurines, shells, “Registos” of Senhor Santo Cristo, toys, cakes, sweets and jams, honey, among others.

It is undoubtedly important to mention that 23 of the artisans/UPAS have already received the seal that allows them to use the collective brand "Artesanato dos Açores". But, in this context of religious celebration, even more important and significant is the presence of 3 of the 10 artisans who received, on December 5, 2025, the International Geographical Indication Certification seal – Registos do Senhor Santo Cristo dos Milagres – São Miguel.

The artisans with GI Certification present are: Maria Luísa Benevides, Maria da Graça Bastos and Fátima Rodrigues. All the artisans who received the GI seals already held the Collective Brand seal " Artesanato dos Açores ".

Registos do Senhor Santo Cristo dos Milagres G.I. are the second Azorean craft product to receive this international recognition, after Violas da Terra dos Açores (2024).
