The Handicrafts of the Azores are being promoted, until July 6th, at the International Crafts Fair – FIA Lisboa, the largest crafts event in the Iberian Peninsula, which opened its doors on Saturday at the Lisbon International Fair (FIL), at Parque das Nações, in Lisbon.
Lúcia Linhares, Vanda Melo, Isabel Silva Melo, Cláudia Furtado, Adolfo Mendonça, Sofia Afonso and Adelaide Costa are the “ambassadors” of the Handicrafts of the Azores until Sunday, July 6, in an international event that attracts thousands of visitors every year.
In this edition of FIA 2025, the ceramic artisan from the Island of Terceira, Adolfo Mendonça, stood out once again, to whom FIA 2025 Award jury awarded an honorable mention in the contemporary crafts category. Also competing for this Award in the Traditional and Contemporary Crafts categories were artisans Isabel Silva Melo, in the ceramics area, Adelaide Costa, in the vegetable fibers area, and Cláudia Furtado, with engraving on whale bone and wood.
The participation of these artisanal companies that work with ceramics, fish scales, corn leaves, wood, bone and textiles is supported by the Incentive System for the Development of Handicrafts (SIDART), through which expenses for specialized and promotional fairs, among other investments, are shared annually.
Also on display at the Artesanato dos Açores stand at FIA-Lisbon is a display of nine “Registos” of Senhor Santo Cristo dos Milagres, which stand out for the exuberance of the floral compositions and the materials used, such as fish scales, corn leaves, silkworm cocoons, beads and a wide variety of paper and fabrics.
The Artesanato dos Açores stand is located in the pavilion dedicated to national crafts, alongside the main entities that develop their activity in the craft sector, such as the Institute of Employment and Professional Training (IEFP), CEARTE and Municipalities from all over the country that promote their craft productions from a cultural and tourist point of view.
FIA-Lisbon can be visited from 3pm to 11pm. On Friday and Saturday the exhibition closes at midnight.
