In some Asian countries, tea and ceramics are two inseparable traditions. The development and industrialization of tea production in some countries has been a source of income and development, as has the evolution of ceramic techniques associated with tea cultivation.
In the case of RAKU, a technique used by ceramist Paulo Alves, we are faced with a unique way of working with clay. It is not just a craft; it is an intention, an attitude that the artisan places on the raw material. Paulo Alves, through the RAKU technique, exercises the perception of natural elements, letting what he feels flow – the beauty of the soul.
In terms of training, Paulo Alves began making ceramics in 1987. He attended schools, completed various training courses, creative residencies, and symposiums in several countries.
A free-spirited man, he is inspired by the aesthetics of the senses, harmony, serenity, sensuality, and simplicity.
You can visit Azores in a Box and admire the works of Paulo Alves, which will be on display from September 8th to October 31st.
