Rosary of the Pilgrims

Berries and seeds are transformed by artisanal creativity. Here the most representative creation is linked to the religious tradition of São Paulo, the Lenten pilgrimages that began in the 16th century, after the volcanic eruption that devastated the main town – Vila Franca do Campo. These are commonly called “Terços de Romeiro”, made with seeds or berries, also known as Elder Corn, originating in Brazil. Using simple cutting and point pliers, the craftsman shapes the wire in order to separate the 59 beads – “Mary's Tears” – which, by nature's gift, are already glazed and pierced.
